Making Dreams A Reality | The Road to Success

If I were to ask each and every one of you: what is your biggest, wildest and most outrageous dream? I'm sure I would get a wide range of different answers. Some of you might say you want to become the next Madonna strutting the stage and entertaining the masses with your music and wild dance moves. For others it might be sitting in a large, fancy office on the 100th story of an office building in NYC as the proud owner of your own successful business. Someone else's dream might be to quit their job and travel the world while living in different countries and embracing the culture that each place has to offer. Yes, we all have these kinds of dreams, and we all tell ourselves that once we achieve them, we will finally be happy and start enjoying our lives.

In reality though, this kind of success doesn't happen overnight. We live in a society where we want everything NOW and feel a sense of entitlement. We feel like we deserve to have amazing things happen to us "just because" and get frustrated when things don't happen the way we planned them out in our heads. But if you were to ask any person living their dream life, none of them would say: "Oh I was just sitting on the couch watching TV and eating Cheetos and then it just happened!"

Okay, jokes aside now! Achieving your dreams takes hard work! And to be honest, I use to be one of those people who would sit around waiting for good things to just happen to me. But one day, I realized that nothing was ever going to happen unless I decided to make some changes. I'm not claiming that my life is perfect, and I know I still have a long way to go in order to be living my own dream life. But I do have some tips that I would like to share with you today to help us all get closer to living our dream lives. Keeping these in mind have helped me a lot, and I hope that they will help you too :)

It's All About the Hustle
There is no other way around it! Nothing ever happens without hard work. I really don't know where we learned to feel entitled to things, but it is an extremely dangerous way to live our lives. If you want something, you gotta hustle! You have to wake up every day and work the hardest you can in order to get even slightly closer to your dream. If you want to travel the world, you have to get a job, work hard and save your money so that you can make it happen. If you want to become healthy and fit, you have eat healthy, hit the gym and train hard everyday. It really is no pain, no gain! Always keep in mind that even the slightest step forward is worth it if it brings you closer to living your dream life.

Don't Give in to Fears and Setbacks
Very often, we get in our own way when it comes to achieving our dreams. We all have fears, and those fears are often so strong that they create a roadblock. We tell ourselves we aren't good enough when things get tough, or others tells us that our dreams are too frivolous and unrealistic. All of our dreams look really nice on paper, but in reality it's scary and challenging to chase them. Success is a destination, and to get there we have to go through a lot of ups and downs. Those ups and down are impossible to avoid, so make them a part of the journey. When you encounter a setback, instead of letting it bring you down, tell yourself it's part of the game and take it as a challenge. Remember, nothing great ever comes easy!

Make Everyday Life Your Classroom
Of course, formal education can come in very handy. But learning doesn't stop when you get that shiny diploma. I completed a bachelor's degree in Psychology just a little over a year ago, and I've come to realize that life is just as much of a school, if not more so,  than is the traditional classroom. Always be open to learning! Whether it's a concrete skills like learning how to sew, knit and cook, or something a little less tangible like leadership skills and public speaking, you never know when it will be useful. The more you know, the more likely you are to succeed at anything. One day, it might help you get closer to achieving your dreams. So be like a sponge and absorb all the knowledge you possibly can.

Surround Yourselves With Positive People
You might have already heard the saying "you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with." Well I believe there is definitely some truth to it. So make sure to surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you. We don't always notice it, but the people around us hugely impact who we are and who we become. If you spend time with people who are negative, that negative energy will inevitably rub off on you. If you feel like you don't have a lot of positive people in your life at the moment, not to worry. This wonderful thing called the Internet is one of the best places to get your dose and positivity. From blogs to YouTube videos to Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest, everyone is bound to find the type of inspiration they are looking for.

I really hope that these tips and tricks will help you successfully achieve your wildest, most outrageous dreams. What do you guys hope to achieve in the future? I would love to hear from you guys! :)

Until next time,
Olivia -xox-
